Navigator Resources’ objective is for Leonora to become its second operating gold mine, after Bronzewing, moving the Company into mid-tier gold producer status. To progress towards this objective Navigator is conducting a trial mining and milling program between February and June 2010. A 75,000t ore parcel will be mined from Cardinia and Mertondale and will be processed at the nearby St Barbara Gwalia mill to produce around 5,000oz of gold and provide valuable grade, recovery, materials handling and metallurgical information that could allow the fast-tracking of Leonora into production by the end of 2010. Both stand-alone and custom milling options will be investigated for the full operation of Leonora.
Working capital was raised in December 2009, whilst the mining permit was also approved that month. Since then a Project Manager has been appointed and technical staff mobilised to site in January. The mining fleet was mobilised in early February 2010 and mining commenced on 12 February. Navigator expects the program to produce around 5,000oz of gold from the treatment of several discrete batches of ore. The trial program has been designed to be cash positive.
