Cummins Range was discovered by CRA Exploration Pty Ltd (CRAE) in 1978 following the ground inspection of a large, discrete airborne magnetic anomaly. CRAE then explored the Cummins Range Project from 1978 – 1984 drilling 3,240m of auger, RAB, aircore and percussion drilling in 187 holes (average depth = 17m) in addition to 804m of diamond drilling in two holes (average depth = 402m).
Cummins Range formed part of Navigator’s 2003 IPO properties which were all located in the East Kimberley. A detailed aeromagnetic and radiometric survey had been completed by Navigator in 2002. An assessment for the potential for platinum group metals mineralisation was completed in 2004 by sampling of CRAE drill core however results were negative.
In 2007, Navigator completed 464m
of aircore drilling in 21 holes
(average depth =
22m) and 9,293m of RC drilling in 93 holes (average depth = 100m)
within the central carbonatite zone. Navigator also completed an
additional 4,046m of aircore drilling in 127 holes (average depth =
32m) in testing regional anomalies away from the diatreme.
An in-house initial resource estimate was announced in March 2008 with an updated independent resource estimate being announced in September 2009 following the final receipt of all 1m split samples from the 2007 drilling program. At a 1% REO cut-off grade both estimates were very similar.
